Civil Society Unites Ahead of COP30 in engaging Pre-COP30 Dialogue

In Addis Ababa on October 30, 2025, the Consortium for Climate Change Ethiopia (CCC-E) brought together civil society actors, climate experts, and advocates for a lively Pre-COP30 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) Dialogue, setting the stage for Ethiopia’s voice at COP30 in Belém, Brazil. The event shows thoughtful discussions, debate, and collaboration, giving participants a rare opportunity to reflect on the country’s climate priorities and ensure they are represented on the global stage.

Panelists shared diverse perspectives, highlighting urgent challenges and opportunities. Discussions ranged from securing fair and predictable climate finance for developing countries to designing community-led adaptation strategies that boost resilience at the grassroots level. Participants stressed the need for gender-responsive and disability-inclusive climate action, pointing out that policies often fail to reach the most vulnerable communities. A recurring theme across the panels was the importance of coordination and unity among civil society actors, emphasizing that a strong, collective voice is essential to influence both national and international climate decisions.

Building on these conversations, CCC-E developed a comprehensive CSO position paper that captures the priorities and insights shared during the dialogue. This position paper was submitted to the Ministry of Planning and Development (MoPD) and, through the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA), shared with the African Group of Negotiators (AGN), ensuring that Ethiopia’s civil society perspectives help shape discussions at COP30.

Participants left the dialogue energized, recognizing that collaboration, inclusivity, and strategic advocacy are key to advancing climate justice. CCC-E reaffirmed its commitment to supporting an inclusive platform that integrates the voices of women, youth, and persons with disabilities, ensuring that climate policies reflect the real needs of communities across Ethiopia.

The Pre-COP30 dialogue was more than a meeting; it was a catalyst for action, laying the foundation for stronger civil society engagement and a unified Ethiopian voice at COP30. CCC-E expressed gratitude to all participants for their energy, insights, and dedication, affirming that the outcomes will drive advocacy and inspire meaningful climate action now and in the future.
