The Consortium for Climate Change – Ethiopia (CCC-E) was first conceived in 2009 as a loose network of the Ethiopian Civil Society Network on Climate Change (ECSNCC) consisting of CSOs working on environment, climate change and natural resources management. In December 2014, CCC-E was legally registered with the Federal Charities and Societies Agency (ChSA) as an Ethiopian Resident and Foreign Charity Consortium, bearing a certificate number 3355 and with a membership of more than 40 organizations. CCC-E/ECSNCC has been hosted by Forum for Environment (FfE) since its inception. The consortium has recognized that Ethiopia is being significantly affected by climate change and that CSOs can play major roles in supporting localized efforts in combating climate change.
Despite the shrinking space for CSOs in Ethiopia, CCC-E has managed to closely collaborate with the government and non-state actors and contributed to enhanced awareness and commitment of different stakeholders to address the effects of climate change at all levels. These results are achieved through organizing a series of awareness creations and capacity building events, by advocating for better political commitment on climate change, by influencing decision makers to take sound measures, and engaging in climate change related activities & negotiations.
